Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 9 but is strictly a formality at this point because Wedelstedt has struck a deal with prosecutors to serve a 13-month prison term in exchange for the majority of charges being dropped against his wife and their company.
Wedelstedt also may be forced to close his adult retail stores in eight Texas cities. Goalie Entertainment operates more than 60 stores in 18 states.
Wedelstedt was indicted in March along with six other individuals, including his wife and company, in U.S. District Court in Dallas. In the course of a five-year investigation of Wedelstedt and Goalie, hundreds of thousands of documents were seized by federal prosecutors. The probe resulted in 23 charges, 18 of them obscenity counts. Each obscenity count carried a potential sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
He also was accused of not declaring income from cash-operated video viewing booths in his stores.
Wedelstedt already has forfeited $1.25 million to the federal government.
