Gay Adult Actor Caleb Carter Dies

SAN DIEGO — Gay adult performer Caleb Carter has died. The 24-year-old hanged himself in his apartment in San Diego on Friday. Industry sources tell XBIZ his death has been ruled an intentional suicide.

No note was left behind. However, promoter Jason Sechrest of JasonCurious.com blogged this week that Carter had been attempting to wean himself off the anti-anxiety drug Paxil.

Carter additionally was manic-depressive, and had been struggling with alcohol addiction. He had apparently stopped answering his cell phone for several days; performer Brent Summers drove over to Carter's apartment and discovered the body.

A wake that was organized by several friends and relatives was held Monday night in San Diego. A memorial service and cremation burial is scheduled for today.

Carter shot several dozen films between 2004 and 2008, and additionally worked for a variety of web-exclusive studios. His videography includes "Dorm Days" (Unzipped Video), "Inn Over His Head" (Adonis Pictures), "Never Been Touched" (Rascal Video) and "Shane's World: College Invasion" (Shane’s World).

Two of Carter's films — "Sex with Strangers" (All Worlds Video) and "Friends with Benefits" (Rad Video) — were directed by this reporter.

In 2006, Carter achieved a bit of pop-culture notoriety during a same-sex episode of the MTV reality-dating series "Parental Control." His bitchy one-liners generated a strong viewer response, and led MTV producers to cast him in an episode of their reality-documentary series, "True Life" titled, "I Am Gay" in which his parents also appear.

Carter's last public appearance was in November 2008 for the Hollywood premiere of the documentary series "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Gay Porn Stars* (*But Were Afraid to Ask"). He is among the gay adult performers interviewed in the series.

A fixture on the nightclub scene in Los Angeles and San Diego, Carter was known for his biting humor and gregarious personality. On a personal note, he was a longtime friend and confidant of this reporter. His absence will be deeply felt.
