"We sell porn, and we wanted to help some new filmmakers get started," Babeland cofounder Rachel Venning told XBIZ. "We aren’t trying to become a studio, it's just a fun project for us."
The first title in the series, "The New Romantix," is a two-disc documentary directed by Max Royale exploring the sexuality of six female adult performers including Joanna Angel, Ryan Keely, Lexi Bardot and Avy Lee Roth. The production intercuts intimate conversations about their personal lives with seven fantasy sequences showing them taking charge of their own erotic explorations with partners of their choice.
"He's got an exciting vision of the portrayal of female pleasure, which is something that we're into," Venning said. "The women's market is our main focus. It's really exciting." "The New Romantix" was shot in high-definition and has an original, eclectic soundtrack by new electronica, folk and indie pop artists.
Plans call for DVDs in the Babeland Premieres line to come out "about one a quarter," Venning said. The next release, "Roulette," by director Courtney Trouble, "showcases a community of ladies, artists and queers with varying reasons for wanting to make porn." No release date has been announced.
"The New Romantix" is available now at Babeland.com.
