Digital Playground Recuts 'Pirates II' for MPAA R Rating

VAN NUYS, Calif. — An R-rated version of Digital Playground's hit "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" will be released by MTI Home Video on DVD and Blu-ray Feb. 24.

The R rating is copyrighted by the Motion Picture Association of America and issued by MPAA's Classification and Rating Administration. The first "Pirates" was cut to an R and released by MTI in 2006.

"'Pirates' and now 'Pirates II' are very exciting projects for MTI to work on," said Jay Grossman, vice president of sales and acquisitions for MTI Home Video. "'Pirates II' is larger than life, with incredible talent, story, sets, and of course the blockbuster effects. Fans of action adventure films will be very pleased with the R-rated version MTI is set to release next month."

Digital Playground executives were enthusiastic about the new version.

"The R rating is a testament to the production value that went into 'Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge," said Joone, Digital Playground founder and director of both "Pirates" productions. "MTI shares our vision and we're thankful for the great partnership."

Digital Playground CEO Samantha Lewis points out that the R-rated version may be less threatening to consumers unfamiliar with adult.

"The R version appeals to those looking to ease into adult entertainment, as well as fans of epic movies," Lewis said. "The massive number of pre-orders indicates the extensive interest."

"Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" stars Digital Playground contract performers Jesse Jane, Stoya, Katsuni, Riley Steele and Gabriella Fox, with Belladonna, Sasha Grey, Jenna Haze, Brianna Love, Shay Jordan, Abbey Brooks, Shawna Lenee, Rhylee Richards, Brea Lynn, Shyla Stylez and Veronica Rayne. Evan Stone, Tommy Gunn, and Steven St. Croix reprise their roles from the original "Pirates," and are joined by Manuel Ferrara, James Deen, Marco Banderas, Mick Blue, Ben English and Charles Dera. "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" was directed by Joone and produced by Joone and his business partner Samantha Lewis.
