The XBIZ Weekly Tech Watch

This week's tech watch brings news about a daring gambit by developers at MySpace, as well as a look at some hot new iPhone apps.

• Some of the biggest news to emerge from the tech world this week surrounds MySpace's covert development of a webmail application. All MySpace users will immediately be assigned an email address that will be their username followed by "@myspace.com." At launch, MySpace, with its 125 million members, would instantly become the third-largest webmail provider in the world.

TechCrunch broke the story based on some anonymous sources. MySpace did not confirm or deny the story, instead only offering this comment:

"Messaging is one of the most popular communication tools for MySpace’s 125 million users worldwide. We actively listen to the feedback we receive from our users and are constantly evaluating new ways to enhance the messaging experience for our community. Our recent collaboration with Google to introduce the first search and sort mail functionality into MySpace was extremely well received. We do not comment on company rumors or speculation but will share more details on additional product plans when we have news."

• One iPhone App developer complained that Apple enforced an unreasonable copyright claim in rejecting one of his apps.

• Police in Mumbai are cracking down on cyberterrorists.

• US Stream is preparing to unveil an application that can broadcast live video from an iPhone.
