The studio, located at 8037 Remmet Ave., caught fire as a result of “a heating element, which failed,” according to Cecil Manresa, a spokesman for the LAFD.
After the fire was reported at 2:19 a.m., about 100 firefighters responded to the call and extinguished the fire in 23 minutes, according to LAFD spokesman Ron Myers. No injuries were immediately reported, Manresa said.
The large, single-story building “suffered smoke and water damage estimated at $250,000,” Myers said. The damages affected about 20 percent of the building.
