The deal will enable the adult studio to distribute its titles in the U.K. and elsewhere in Europe. Distribution can be challenging for adult studios in the U.K., because the country has requirements that call for review and approval of adult DVDs. The deal means the studio won’t have to deal the government process, because Scala will handle it.
“They cover the R18 costs and in exchange we agreed on a fair price per finished DVD for them to then sell,” Stuart Wall, Smash Pictures vice president, told XBIZ. “These are the big boys and so I’m excited about this.”
“While attending the Venus Berlin show the reputation that SCALA has is top notch and while I was in the Frankfurt, Germany, airport I was amazed to see one of the Beate Uhse adult stores located right in the terminal,” said Stuart Wall, Smash Pictures vice president. “I also visited the Beate Uhse erotic museum while in Berlin. These guys are everywhere and this means good things for Smash Pictures.”
Smash Pictures is best known for its series “Secretary’s Day,” “WhaleTail,” “Cheating Housewives,” and “Teen Idol.” The studio’s latest release is “Teen Idol Vol. 6: Black Man's Turn," which stars Rico Strong, Prince, Shorty Mac and CJ Wright. Casting for volume 6 for “Cheating Housewives” has began and the title is scheduled for release in January.
The deal came struck following negotiations at the Venus Berlin tradeshow last month.
