The drive started back on Oct. 29 with the goal of restocking as many food banks as possible before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Peekay marketing coordinator Sylvia TeGantvoort said that her company has teamed up with 34 local agencies for the drive, and that they're well on their way to meeting their goal of 15,000 pounds of food.
"The community response has been outstanding thus far," she said. "We’ve had customers excited and impressed to see our stores help our local communities with this program. With just one week of beginning the food collection, we have already collected approximately 3,600 pounds of food."
TeGantvoort added that customer response to the drive has been enthusiastic. According to her, Peekay is offering discounts and coupons to customers who donate food, but some people are skipping the benefits just to give food.
"Trading food in exchange for a better sex life?" she said. "Works for us. Sounds like a win-win situation."
