"Lovelace: A Rock Opera" will star newcomer Katrina Lenk in the title role as the star of the classic adult movie "Deep Throat," among others.
Roz Bernstein Productions will present the new opera, which was co-written by Anna Waronker and Charlotte Caffey, a founding member of the rock band The Go-Gos. Among other achievements, Caffey is known for writing the hit song "We Got the Beat."
“After a tremendous amount of research, we realized that the life of Linda Lovelace is a complicated story to tell," the two writers said. "This isn’t about a porn star or a feminist. What compelled us were all the details that lurked under the surface of this woman’s life.
"Musically, what we found through the years was that this story had a particular intensity that didn’t lend itself to a traditional setting of a musical with dialogue. Luckily, the music we had written did indeed lend itself to that intensity, and after four years of countless books, several workshops … here we are.”
Director Ken Sawyer will bring the new opera to the stage. Sawyer's credits include “One Red Flower” and “Crime and Punishment,” which he directed for the Crossley Theater in Hollywood, Calif.
