Doll Underground
Alt auteur Eon McKai took more than a year to complete what he describes as his most densely sexual movie yet, “Doll Underground.”

The movie loosely tells the story of a pack of sex rebels dressed in Gothic Lolita gear — teddy bears, platform shoes and tons of black eye shadow — as they band together to stand up against the conformity of suburbia and take down the “owner” class with a cache of homemade bombs.

Set in L.A., filmmaker McKai intersperses stock footage from ‘50s educational films: strangely retro and futuristic at the same time. There is an experimental, art-house feel, and the visuals are super-stylized to the point of being fetishistic. The girls all have dyed black hair and resemble dolls after awhile, with a lot of emphasis on panty-flashing and red-painted lips.

An erotically hypnotic scene has Pixie Pearl doing a solo with a shiny black dildo, and though it was filmed in color, the palette is essentially black-and-white — the only color being her lips and the slightly pink blush of her pale skin.

The sex scenes flow into each other without much dialogue, and there’s a lot of kissing and mouth play that gives the sex a girlish feeling.

Obviously, most alt titles are aimed at the younger demographic, and it’s the same with “Doll Underground.” You could use it as background for a really cool party with all your hippest friends — especially because of the interesting soundtrack — or as masturbatory material if you like alt-looking girls.
