A Lovely Au Pair

“Au Pair” is a French phrase that translates roughly to “maid” in English. Frank Vicomte tells the tale of an in-home caretaker who gets more than she bargained for. When Lana gets a job in the home of Shalina Devine and Kristof Cale, she thinks it to be just another routine job. However, she soon discovers that Shalina and Kristof’s marriage isn’t as strong as it appears. Can Lana help the beleaguered couple?

In the film, Vince Karter gives an adept performance as a smarmy, callous character. There’s a subplot between Cherry Kiss and Poppy Pleasure as well that gets just enough exposition to be meaningful without taking any shine off the main storyline, and Kate Rich sparkles in a naughty supporting role. Frank Vicomte really pulls off a nice little story here that has more depth than one might expect.

The film opens with Lana Roy arriving at the home of Shalina Devine and Kristof Cale for her latest contractual employment. While Shalina shows Lana around the house, Kristof is getting his dick wet in his study with the long-legged beauty Linda Leclair. Many fans who watch this today won’t even know what a silent movie is, nor will they realize they’re watching one here. But Frank Vicomte clearly has an appreciation for the stylized storytelling of the 20s and 30s and his cast does a nice job of bringing the story to life within the restriction of being non-verbal. Shalina Devine is sexually exquisite while Lana Roy hits a deviant home run every time she’s onscreen.
