Cougar Queen: A Tiger King Parody

The wildly popular Netflix docu-series “Tiger King” gets the porn parody treatment in this reality-style feature from co-directors Casey Calvert and Eli Cross. Penned by Fistopher Nolan, the story chronicles the rise and fall of lesbian porn mogul Jill Erotic (Serene Siren) and her battle for industry supremacy within the lesbian porn space against competing moguls Bagavag “Dot” Scandal (Reagan Foxx) and Cheryl Badsin (Cherie Deville).

For parodies to work, the creator must decide whether their story is going to be a satire or a spoof. Satires tend to lean closer to the source material, while spoofs often stray far outside its parameters. Cougar Queen is a full on satire with spoof elements. Fistopher Nolan does a nice job writing a story that is just as insanely over-the-top as its source material, and directors Calvert and Cross do a great job capturing the tone of the story through their direction (particularly the reality-style interview bits).

The massive cast is headlined by Serene Siren who absolutely nails her role. She doesn’t just do an impression of Joe Exotic from the Netflix series, she makes Jill Erotic feel like a different character completely even though she behaves in a similar fashion. It’s one of the best character performances I’ve ever seen from Serene. Everyone else in the film does a great job bringing the story to life, and they all get a chance to shine. There’s also a story within a story of a journalist struggling to make sense of the insanity surrounding Jill, Cheryl and Dot. Great concept and execution.

Fans of solo scenes are absolutely going to love what this series has to offer. Jill Exotic gets the ball rolling when she bursts into a performative solo session to show Calvert exactly why she has so many fans. It’s really a cool how Serene goes from badgering her nemesis Cheryl while shoving four fingers up her pussy, to just getting off like she would during a show for her fans. Watching Serene rub her clit furiously while splayed upon a reclining bench is quite the treat.

Rita Cuck’em (April O’Neil), a former director for Jill’s company GW Films, breaks into a solo scene of her own during her interview. There’s a scene between Cheryl and her second wife Holly Badsin (Aaliyah Love) that is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. With public perception regarding the integrity of her marriage to Holly in doubt, Cheryl surprises Holly with an impromptu FaceTime call. Hoping to dispel the public rumors, Cheryl coerces Holly into a virtual sex session. As the audience, we get to see Aaliyah Love fucking herself (albeit somewhat confused) while also getting to watch Cherie Deville bang herself to intense orgasm. I couldn’t help but think of people around the world engaging in similar situations due to Covid when I saw this scene and I must applaud Calvert and Cross for this unique idea.

Scarlett Sage has a solo scene that plays out like a cam show. Unlike everyone else in the film, Lucy Caboosey (Sage) forces Calvert to tip her in order to get any information. To Calvert’s chagrin, instead of revealing details about the conflict, Lucy simply gives Calvert a standard online show before logging off. Scarlett really lights up the camera as she blisters her pussy with the combo of pink vibrator and hitachi wand.

It was very smart for Calvert and Cross to give away the story’s climax right away, then take the audience back to figure out the path to that climax. There’s also a mystery element that keeps the audience tuned in beyond the sex. Despite the movie having to be shot largely virtually amid the pandemic, within the largely solo scenes there is diversity with toy play, a virtual scene and a cam setting. Serene Siren arrives excels as an actor and Nolan’s screenplay is rock solid. Casey Calvert is also hitting her stride as a director, having successfully helmed two substantial series in the past year.
