Second Chances
Carter Cruise plays Madison, a college senior who is still trying to get over a nasty prank played on her as a freshman by a dude named Josh who professed love for her then cruelly dumped her in public. As she says, she fell “completely desperately in love with the worst possible person.”
Madison has started a dog rescue operation with her two best friends, played with brio by Jessa Rhodes and Logan Pierce. When Josh sees her plugging it on TV he is seized with remorse and tries to undo his bad deed. Too late, however, since Madison is falling in love with her older (over 30!) bartender boss, played by Brendon Miller.
This is Couples Porn for Millenials, a sub-niche that no one has mined as skillfully or with such conviction as St. James. She creates characters and situations that socially networked twentysomethings can identify with and relate to. There are delicious details in the characters and dialogue that can’t be found in other “couples” movies.
Everyone acts well—including Allie Haze as a mean-girl prom queen—but the movie belongs to Carter Cruise. She’s really something, with a sunny, open, “normal” (non-porn girl) vibe, and in the sex she gives her all. Both her scenes, first with White, then Miller, are hyper-intense. Her responses are highly sexual and seem to be deeply felt. Powell, with his enviable knack for camera placement, shoots all the sex beautifully. And as a bonus for pet-lovers, there are several adorable pooches.
During her Freshman year of college, Madison Presley thought she'd met the love of her life when she starting dating handsome football player, Josh Rochette. That is, until she found herself the butt of a giant fraternity joke that he had carefully orchestrated behind her back. Devastated by his betrayal, Madison spends the next three years trying to move past her heartbreak with the help of her unfailingly loyal friend, Dean and wisecracking roommates, Olivia and Lucas. But, when Josh unexpectedly comes back into her life during her senior year - Madison's world is thrown into a tailspin. Although older, wiser, and far more jaded than when she'd first fallen for him, she's left wondering whether something truly wonderful can come out of giving people Second Chances.
