Q&A: Christina Castalia Reigns as Best BBW Cam Model

Q&A: Christina Castalia Reigns as Best BBW Cam Model

Bubbly and body-positive Christina Castalia pleases fans of every kind, not only satisfying those who love BBWs and hairy women, but a great many who simply adore being in her presence on cam. They also are quite dedicated to the wealth of photos, videos and streaming she offers. And this year, she was crowned 2021 XBIZ Best BBW Cam Model at the Cam Awards during XBIZ Miami.

When asked about her life before adult, Castalia had to pause, searching her memories deeply, because she has been in the game for some time now. “Man, I barely even remember!” she confessed. “How far back do you wanna go? The adult industry has been a part of my life, officially and unofficially, for a very long time.

I love banter and talking shit with my homies before, in between and after the orgasms.

“I had a pretty rocky childhood that made me grow up a lot faster than I should have,” she continued. “Which means I did a lot of things as a teen that most people barely get to in their twenties or thirties. Because of this, I had difficulty relating to people my age, so I always used to roll with an older crowd.”

She then described herself as being both the best and worst student, for while her attendance record was very spotty (and she frequently showed up to class smelling like weed), she still managed to ace her grades and slide on by with charm.

“My teachers taught me perhaps one of the most important lessons I've ever learned: I can talk my way out of everything,” she revealed mischievously. “So I always tried. And I always could.”

By the time she was 19, jumping into law school and exiting a relationship with a guy who had been paying all her bills, she needed a job. Unfortunately, this was during the aftermath of the financial crisis over a decade ago, and not many places were hiring. This led her to explore phone sex as a work-from-home option, after some Google sleuthing to determine the ideal telecommuting gigs.

“I started off thinking I was only going to offer phone sex,” she revealed. “My mom used to have a friend who did this back in the ’90s and I heard stories about her talking to these men while doing the dishes and she always made it sound very innocent so I was like, ‘You know what? I am pretty good at sex, I can do this!’ When I got my first call, though, I realized I wasn't as tough as I thought and maybe a lot more shy too, so I hung up the phone and decided to cam.”

She started off on a Dutch website, and recalled that sites back then were a bit quirky compared to now. The site allowed performers to do either straight-up phone sex, camming with no sound (just typing) or camming with sound.

“So I opted for the camming and typing, as I didn't want to hear anyone, which is funny because cam2cam is one of my favorite things now,” she said. “I love being able to see and hear the person I am engaging with, so that I can see the way they're responding to what I'm doing and make sure I give them the experience they are truly looking for.

“Because I was also still in law school and I didn't think I'd do this for a long time, I started camming without showing my face,” Castalia continued. “I did not want to be recognized! And whenever I had money to invest, I would, so I bought a better camera, a good mic, a beast of a laptop, lighting, clothes, etc. It was never a conscious plan for me, it all kind of just happened.”

Over the years, she felt increasingly confident and became very comfortable tapping into her authentic self, opening up to fans and upping her game. Now, as freshly-minted XBIZ royalty, she is ready to take her ambitions to the next level and ascend ever higher in her adult career, which she detailed in this exclusive Cam Star of the Month interview.

XBIZ: What do your fans get most excited about when you're on cam?

CASTALIA: I know it's such a cliché answer, but I think it’s just me being myself they get most excited about. Also, sucking dick is one of my favorite spare-time activities, and my passion for it shines through in all of my shows. My hypermobility also allows me to put my legs behind my neck for fun and giggles, so I turn myself into a scrumptious pretzel with ease. The fact that I squirt in my own face on a daily basis I'm sure is very fun for them, because it is for me!

My potty mouth is something a lot of them come back for too. However, I think for all of those things, they can go to many other girls. So the only thing that is unique about me is my presence, my personality and my genuine passion to get to know people, figuring out what makes them tick, why they like what they like and how their brain works.

My body is very unique in the sense that most BBW performers are very busty. God decided that was not for me, though (probably good, too, because I already can't behave as is). I am a true pear shape and carry most of my weight below the waist. I often hear from my guys that they have never seen someone shaped like me before.

I love banter and talking shit with my homies before, in between and after the orgasms. The fact I am absolutely not capable of taking any shit from anyone might just be the cherry on top of all of this cake.

XBIZ: Which platform is your favorite to cam on and why?

CASTALIA: Streamate is my favorite! And it’s the platform I owe all of my success to. I’ve been on it since 2014, when I quit a Dutch cam site after realizing that girls were making really good money internationally; I wanted to see if I could get even close to that level.

I have tried a few other websites, and I am still kind of looking around for a platform that allows me to do more shows that highlight my personality a bit more, but I don't see myself ever leaving Streamate. The one-on-one exclusive shows are my favorite because it allows me to really focus on one person and give them exactly what it is they want, from deepthroat shows to the craziest fetishes. I just love making people happy.

XBIZ: Discuss your "hairy Greek goddess" brand and how you cater to your followers' interests.

CASTALIA: The hairy thing is something that really evolved because of my homies on cam. I am Greek, and Greeks are pretty hairy creatures! Growing up, I definitely had a mustache before any of the boys in my class had one. It was something I was always bullied for (that, and because I was a fat kid) so I used to fight against it. I shaved everywhere and everything.

I still remember the moment, in my little student studio apartment in 2015, where I was about to shave my pits and I was so fed up, because my skin got so irritated every time and I said out loud to myself, "Who the fuck am I doing this for?!" so I didn't shave them, and I haven't since. Slowly, that developed into more parts of my body, where I wondered, "Why am I shaving my pussy if I don't even like her being bald?" Then I thought, "If I love running my fingers through the hair, why would I shave for someone else?" and it turned out, most men either don't give a fuck or they love it!

I would get more and more people being extremely, happily surprised when they discovered my hairy parts, so for me that was just a no-brainer. My guys know I like to switch it up sometimes, shave my legs a bit, maybe give my pussy a little Mohawk, though I always keep some hair! And my pits will never be bald ever again.

Even when I embraced it a little more for myself, I still didn't really make it a part of my brand, probably because of stubbornness. I felt like I didn't want to make it a vocal point. I don't even really know why. My hairy thighs have been one of the hardest for me to love, because it is so uncommon. Even nowadays, you see more bush and hairy pits, but you rarely ever see girls with thighs as hairy as mine. So I often hid them a little by wearing long socks or fishnets.

When I started making content for OnlyFans, suddenly it clicked for me; I would get so many comments from people saying they loved my hairy body, so I finally decided to fully lean into it and I have not looked back since.

XBIZ: Besides camming, you also produce content on premium social media sites. Tell us about the various videos, posts and interactions you offer there.

CASTALIA: OnlyFans really got me back into the content game, and I love it! Creating content really allows me to get into character for photoshoots or videos and really commit to it. With camming, my main focus is always, "What do you want?" and then I play off of that. With content, I of course keep in mind what my homies want to see, but I am able to focus more on what I like to do and what I want to see.

I mostly post pictures and short clips on the feed, but I am still experimenting with the entire concept. In the beginning, I would post more PPVs, but lately I have posted full-length videos directly on the feed that expire after a week. I love doing dick ratings and chatting in the DMs, too.

I have only been on it for a little over a year and it's a really fun creative outlet for me next to camming, but the way I run it is still in an experimentation phase for me. I'm actually working on some new tip menu options that I am going to be launching soon. I think (and hope!) the homies will love it.

XBIZ: How do you handle social media to grow your presence and monetize traffic?

CASTALIA: Man, not well, haha. When I started, social media was barely a thing, and about five years ago I noticed it was becoming more of a thing. And I knew I should have focused on it, but even though I am a very social person when I am interacting with people, social media has never appealed to me. I have never had any personal social media and I really have to force myself to make sure I post!

The last eight or so months I have been working a lot on improving my online presence. It's not that I don't like it, because when I do engage with my friends on the socials I love it! It's just something that is very unnatural to me, so I really have to make sure I pencil it into my planner. Otherwise it just won't happen.

XBIZ: What was it like winning the 2021 XBIZ Cam Award for Best BBW Cam Model?

CASTALIA: Fucking mind-blowing! I still have difficulty wrapping my brain around it. I was literally next to Estella Bathory and in the same category as Sofia Rose. The entire process was very much, "Man, wouldn't it be cool if I got nominated?!" and then that happened. So it became, "I don't think I'm gonna win, but if I could, wouldn't that be fucking amazing?”

Of course, I looked at the amazing women in my category, and I saw that I was definitely the underdog of the bunch. I'm pretty sure I had the smallest social media following; some of them have over 500K followers on one platform! I remember at some point I was like, "Well... I could win," but seeing those follower counts kept having me immediately throw my phone away like, "Bitch, who are you kidding? You’ll never win!"

The day of the award show, I took a little walk and had a conversation with myself. I wondered if I was able to genuinely be happy for whoever would win (because I didn't expect it to be me), and therefore I questioned myself about potential jealousy and all of that. I eventually came to the conclusion that I cannot be anything else but happy for whoever wins because whoever does got the most votes, i.e. their people voted for them, so they obviously deserve it.

And about eight hours later, I was freaking out and calling my mom asking if she saw the award show and if I actually won because I could not believe it. I cannot even express the amount of gratitude I have for my homies. They really did that!

XBIZ: How have you, and the industry itself, changed since you began performing?

CASTALIA: The change has been insane. I already mentioned the camming platform that didn't even use sound and how I used to rely on just the built-in laptop cam. It was definitely not something that people thought was a job like they do now. Social media basically did not exist.

After graduating school, I worked at an NGO for a few years next to camming and became too busy to really produce much content during that time. When I finally decided to shift all of my focus onto the adult industry in 2018, I was overwhelmed, haha. The last time I checked we barely sold HD videos, and now people had started to produce in 4K?

It's wild to me how the industry has grown in technical ways, like the production value of independent creators, but also how much more mainstream it has become. I would have never expected something like OnlyFans to become a household name and people being this eager to jump into the field.

XBIZ: What's next for you in the coming months, as far as your goals and grand plans?

CASTALIA: The XBIZ Cam Awards week, with the networking events at XBIZ Miami and the seminars, really lit a fire under me and I regained so much new inspiration! I have so many ideas that have been on my mind since 2018 and even from before that. I recently found some notes in my notebook that go back as far as 2013, which are project concepts that still run through my mind today.

Some of them I already half started. One of my big ones I have already spent weeks working on since 2019 involved making a specific prop, and then when I got close to finishing it, I got cold feet and chickened out. My main focus for the coming year is to actually finish them! It's time for me to stop being afraid. I really want to share more of myself and what I have to offer creatively; I’m so incredibly excited for everyone to see.
