Building a Branded Fan Community

Building a Branded Fan Community

I first started camming back in 2014 after I saw an ad on Craigslist for a job that allowed you to make money online, work from home and be your own boss. I tested out a few different platforms, before discovering Chaturbate was the place I wanted to be because of the inclusivity, community and freedom. Now, seven years later, I have an amazing community of fans, over 510K followers on the cam site and 138K followers on Twitter.

Before I truly set about establishing my brand, I initially didn’t put a lot of thought into my cam name. I had just combined my AIM screen name with my Minecraft name in a way that didn’t really represent my shows or who I was. After some trial and error, and some rebranding along the way, I decided on “Asiri_Ocean” since I’m a master diver IRL and when I’m not camming, I’m always in the water. I’m also constantly changing, evolving and moving, just like the ocean.

Creating a community that’s easy to join and where everyone feels welcomed is what helps keep your fan base growing and engaged.

“Asiri” means “she who smiles” and comes from a variety of languages and backgrounds, just like I do. Now, my cam room bio includes special icons, merchandise, stickers, names and decals, plus fan club perks and merch that all revolve around my branding as “Asiri Ocean.” This helps build brand awareness and community.

CREATING FAN INCENTIVES

I have a few different fan clubs, tiers and subscription services available on Chaturbate and across other platforms, helping to keep my fans engaged and coming back for more.

For instance, I have the “Calamari Club” where users can tip 1616 tokens to join. As a club member, fans receive access to my Snapchat for life, a badge next to their name in chat and their name is also mentioned in my camming bio. They further receive a thank you card and a set of Polaroids I ship out along with my branded stickers. Sending something physical to fans is a game changer, especially those stickers. I would recommend to any broadcaster that you get some made. They are so cheap compared to the value they add for your fans and the brand awareness they spread. Once a fan receives a sticker, they will put it somewhere in their house, bedroom or office and see it every day. Having that constant reminder of you is priceless.

I also have the “Green Team,” my monthly fan club on Chaturbate. To join, fans pay $9 a month and get free tickets to my shows, access to all the videos and photo sets in my bio, their name in my bio, a green name tag in chat and they become a part of my community. Whenever a member of the Green Team joins my chat room, not only do I greet them by name, but the rest of the chat room greets them with a green “hang loose” hand emoji. This helps make everyone feel included, heard and seen when they enter my Chaturbate cam room and it also drives awareness of my fan club to other viewers in chat when a bunch of green emojis start waterfalling in the chat. Having a unique symbol for my most dedicated fans helps to create and foster community. It’s our little club that anyone is welcome to join.

I also have an OnlyFans where users can view behind-the-scenes content, videos, see unique photo sets or chat with me one-on-one. Having several subscription options keeps fans engaged and offers pricing tiers for those who want to spend more.

CELEBRATING HIGH TIPPERS

As well as creating fan clubs and subscription models, I also celebrate high tippers in my cam room. I have a spot in my Chaturbate bio for the highest tipper of all time and monthly and daily high tippers are displayed right in my cam overlay. For the highest tipper of each month, I send them a physical prize box of my custom merch, condoms, pictures and sometimes even sex toys.

Again, sending physical objects with your brand on them is priceless. I set up a simple Spreadshirt site where I can put my custom icons and branding on sweatshirts, hats, phone cases and t-shirts, you name it, all for a very low cost. I love drawing and anime, so I create my own logo and icons; however, it’s easy to hire a designer or graphic artist to come up with something that matches your cam room and branding that you can use everywhere.

Also, during my shows, I try not to cater just to that one super-high tipper or only to a select few people that are spending the most money. Instead, everyone is included, and whether you spend 20 or 2,000 tokens of your hard-earned money, I’m always appreciative. My community also celebrates high tippers by thanking each other for tipping, generally encouraging each other verbally or taking turns paying for specific requests on my tip menu. I live off other people’s generosity, so I’m thankful for every tip I receive.

DRIVING AWARENESS

To get fans to join my fan clubs and subscription services, I make it extremely easy and worthwhile to join. My Green Team is only $9 a month, and they get free ticket shows, which makes it a no-brainer to join since my ticket shows are usually $10 a pop to non-members. Once they have joined, they will make an effort to come to the shows and get their money’s worth. It’s easier to get people to stay once they are in your cam room or fan club; the hardest part is getting them there. Having easy-to-enter pricing and incentives gets users into your ecosystem, and then you can offer other pricing tiers, clubs and content for sale.

Another way to drive awareness of your paywall content and fan clubs is talking to your fans about it during live shows. I never straight out advertise my OnlyFans or the content for sale in my bio; instead, I ask fans if they have seen the new photos or videos and let them sell it to the others in the room with their excitement and enthusiasm. In turn, this gets other users curious and they will buy my content just from what my fans are saying.

I find that the easiest way to sell content and fan clubs is to get people curious and wanting to see more. Creating unique perks for fans is what has really helped me succeed both monetarily and with longevity. Creating a community that’s easy to join and where everyone feels welcomed is what helps keep your fan base growing and engaged. Come join me on cam and meet some of my Green Team. I’m online Monday- Friday starting at 12 p.m. (PDT) as well as sporadically during the weekend with evening shows.
