Abigail Mac, whose indie roots in the camming side of the biz soon flourished into a full-fledged studio-shot porn career, now straddles the clips market with equal flair.
From her triumphant Tushy.com showcase “Abigail,” which swept the 2019 XBIZ Awards and led her to be crowned Performer of the Year, to her non-stop momentum on premium social media, Mac lays the mack down.
I am very lucky to be safe, healthy and have my husband in this crisis. I have focused all my energy into shooting and promoting.
Across a variety of platforms spanning OnlyFans, ManyVids, Clips4Sale, Modelhub and her new up-and-coming Vybin brand, Mac spreads the love for maximum revenue-earning potential.
With millions of followers on Twitter and Instagram, where she posts a variety of updates spotlighting her often hilarious wit and effortless charming personality, Mac knows that consistency and authenticity are crucial to long-term success.
Now, as Clip Star of the Month, she is notching yet another accolade on her belt, in this exclusive interview.
XBIZ: Tell us about your indie content background prior to shooting studio porn.
Mac: Before porn, I was a webcam model. It started as just a way to make extra money, but turned into a full-time job as I became more successful. It was my first steps into the adult entertainment world.
XBIZ: Once you became a rising star on the pro porn side of the biz, how did you manage your time and resources to continue being an indie performer?
Mac: When I started shooting mainstream porn, I was lesbian-only and still continued to webcam. After a year of doing both, I was approached by a company to start my own website.
On my days off, I would shoot as many scenes as I could. Over the years, as my brand became more lucrative and individual content became more and more popular, I branched out to clip sites, Snapchat and OnlyFans.
Now, what I try to do is look at it like a business. What is going to be the most lucrative for my brand? I always make sure to prioritize shooting for myself rather than giving my content/brand/value away to other companies unless it’s really worth it.
XBIZ: Given the unique traffic that comes from traditional porn and from indie content, discuss your approach to monetizing loyal fans across multiple platforms.
Mac: I feel like the want and need for individualized content is booming. I like to be very diversified on platforms because there are so many different types of fans and they all use their favorite sites.
I use clip sites, tube sites and OnlyFans. If I shoot a scene or clip, I will usually put that on my OnlyFans first until it is no longer making money, then I will upload it across the clip sites, then when it is no longer selling there, I will put it on a tube site.
I believe social media is essential in promoting indie content. I make sure to promote my content every day on Twitter and Instagram. Then, a couple times a week I promote on Facebook, Reddit and Pinterest.
XBIZ: Talk about your social media marketing strategy and how it has evolved over the years, given your considerable Twitter fandom of more than 560-thousand followers and Instagram presence exceeding 2.3-million followers.
Mac: This has been evolving every year and even every month sometimes. Social media rules are always changing. I always try and keep my personality at the core of my social media. While it is a massive part of my business, I don't want it to turn into spam.
With Instagram, I use the story feature to promote with swipe-ups. With Twitter, I have found that four- to eight-second vertical videos are the most effective at promoting.
I will promote on both platforms at least once a day, to keep building my brand and connecting with my fans.
XBIZ: What content platforms do you most frequently sell your self-produced videos and premium social media access on?
Mac: My biggest by far is OnlyFans. From there, it would be Modelhub, then ManyVids and then Clips4Sale.
XBIZ: Discuss your new project, Vybin, through which you and other stars are looking to shake things in the realm of platforms.
Mac: With Vybin, we are focused on bringing a better interactive experience to content creators and consumers. We want to further integrate mainstream and adult performers on one platform that is owned by the creators.
XBIZ: How do you plan to continue selling indie content on other sites, while also gaining momentum on Vybin?
Mac: Like I said, I love to be diversified on all content platforms. Every platform offers something different to the consumer. I will keep doing everything I am already while putting some focus on Vybin. The site will become successful because of its unique features. Fans will always gravitate towards the best platform.
XBIZ: In your view, how has the modern industry shifted towards talent having the most power?
Mac: Anyone who creates their own content, I feel like, is in the best place right now. If talent starts taking advantage of content creation, it gives them the financial freedom to pick and choose what work they want to do. They will no longer depend on companies to make their money. They will be their own boss.
XBIZ: During the challenges of the coronavirus crisis, how have you stayed positive, safe and productive?
Mac: I am very lucky to be safe, healthy and have my husband in this crisis. To be honest, some days are better than others. I have focused all my energy into shooting and promoting because it is keeping me busy. Staying busy is what helps me stay positive. It is important for us to do our part by staying home and staying healthy. We are trying to get sunshine, exercise and eat good healthy food every day.
XBIZ: Any major ambitions for the coming year, in terms of content creation?
Mac: My goal this year is to keep on growing. We are having so much fun right now and that has always been the goal. I want to be able to support the lifestyle I want by having fun, being happy and staying creative.
