Freemium vs. Premium Cam Sites

Freemium vs. Premium Cam Sites

Happy fall to everyone! Lately, I’ve been getting a bunch of questions from models asking my opinion of which is better, freemium sites like Chaturbate and MyFreeCams, or premium sites like Cams.com, LiveJasmin and Streammate.

I’ll remove all of my biases and tell you my honest answer on this one. Neither is better. Let me explain that a little more, or this may set a record for the shortest XBIZ article ever.

In the end, it is all about your personal preference. Every type of site has its positives and its negatives. They all buy different types of traffic and that traffic responds in unique ways.

I say neither one is better because they both have their positives and negatives. To be completely honest, I recommend that you not only try all, but you give each style serious consideration. This is, after all, your livelihood.

I’ll start with what I know best, premium sites. Premium sites are sites where you have free chat with the goal of taking a member into an exclusive premium chat. You charge the member a premium because he has you exclusively in a chat. Most of the time this revolves around a sex show, but occasionally you’ll get a member to fall in love with you and he will want to spend all of the time talking and getting to know you before any kind of sexual acts happen. This is ultimately what you’re looking for.

Freemium sites are much simpler in their goal, the goal is to put on a show for a high volume of members and gather tips to continue the show along. This approach requires that the models be much more creative and they must market themselves much better.

Let’s talk about the drawbacks of premium sites first. The main drawback to premium sites is that there is much less traffic in the rooms, but the percentage of paying members is much higher. This is also why there is a lower percentage of earnings for the premium sites. They have to purchase traffic that is much more expensive, but is often more targeted than the traffic of freemium sites. It also requires that the models sell the fantasy of the online girlfriend. Some models aren’t comfortable with this.

As far as freemium drawbacks, if the members aren’t tipping, there’s no real money coming in. It can be frustrating at times to have 2,000 people in your room talking and not have money changing hands. It also requires models be much more active on social media. Freemium sites do in fact offer a higher percentage than most of the premium sites, but this is balanced against them not buying the same kind of traffic, which can lead to more work required.

As for the positive aspects of them, if a model is more creative and has an exhibitionist side, then a freemium site is for her. If a model is someone that can sell the fantasy and be a little more patient, then a premium site might be more ideal for her.

In the end, it is all about your personal preference. Every type of site has its positives and its negatives. They all buy different types of traffic and that traffic responds in unique ways. This is why I recommend that you try all types of sites. This will give you a good sampling of what the site has to offer and how you fit in. After a few weeks on each site you should have an idea of what works for you. Make sure to use Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat so that your fans know where they can find you.

One last word of caution is, and I can’t say this strongly enough, it only hurts you to broadcast on two sites at the same time. This is especially true as a new model. It’s difficult to pay attention to two sites and be effective. Not to mention, it lowers your bandwidth and computer resources.

Until next time! Please let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll be happy to answer them at shamilton@ffn.com.
