WIA Profile: Laura Scavo

Marketing manager Laura Scavo is as stylish and substantive as the clip site she reps, bringing her ultra-focused perspective to making brand magic happen for ManyVids.

She can hawk the best of wares with her upbeat attitude and rockin’ background in B2B digital marketing, project management and communications from some of the biggest names in adult and mainstream.

We’re constantly brainstorming ways as a team to help our MV Stars become successful and independent entrepreneurs, so all of our marketing efforts are based around that principle.

Whether she is measuring the ROI of campaigns or expanding the reach of ManyVids and its lifeblood of MV Stars, Scavo knows that getting the word out requires an adaptive blend of compelling content, collaboration, contests and more.

To illuminate the many talents of ManyVids’ main marketing maven, XBIZ sat down with Scavo for this exclusive interview.

XBIZ: How did you end up joining the ManyVids team?

Scavo: As you may know, Montreal is a hub for adult entertainment companies, so I ended up getting a job at one of them through a friend a couple of years ago. Fast forward several years later, I ended up leaving there to pursue another role at a non-adult tech-related company.

After my former bosses informed us that the company was “going under,” one of my coworkers at the time who knew I had experience working in the adult industry recommended ManyVids, and put me in contact with the CTO. I met with them and instantly fell in love with the company and their mission and vision. And it was the perfect fit given my past experience working in adult and tech!

XBIZ: Describe your role at ManyVids.

Scavo: We’re a tight-knit marketing team, everyone here has so many awesome ideas. So my role is to really figure out how to execute them effectively. Because we’re a small team with so much to do, most of us wear multiple hats, which is great because you get to learn a bit of everything!

I’ve gotten the chance to help plan, create and execute so many amazing projects that I would have otherwise never gotten the chance to do if I wasn’t working at ManyVids. From launching various MV Mags, all the way to creating a No. 1 trending documentary on Vimeo, I think everyone will be excited to see what we’re up to next!

XBIZ: What’s a “typical day at the office” look like for you?

Scavo: You can often hear me say “never a dull moment!” around the office, and that’s definitely the truth. Every day is so different, and that’s why I love my job! Lucky for us, in the same way Bella provides the right tools to our MV Stars in order for them to succeed at their work, she does the same for us, which makes our job a lot easier.

XBIZ: Talk about the marketing philosophy at ManyVids, and how your team executes it.

Scavo: I would say our marketing philosophy really stems from figuring out how to put our MV Stars first. If there’s anything we can do on our end to give the content creators on our site more exposure to help build their brand, we’re all for it.

We’re constantly brainstorming ways as a team to help our MV Stars become successful and independent entrepreneurs, so all of our marketing efforts are based around that principle.

XBIZ: How do you partner with ManyVids performers to maximize exposure and sales?

Scavo: We’re always looking at different ways to maximize exposure for our MV Stars. The MV Loft is a great example of this, where we bring MV Stars to a 3,500-square-foot loft for three days of photoshoots, MV Takeovers, live interviews with our dedicated podcast team and more.

The MV Loft was created to help give more exposure to MV Stars by promoting them as much as possible. Our primary goal is to expand their fan base by having all eyes on them for the week and helping to propel them to the top of the MV Community!

XBIZ: What is your approach to balancing analytics with taking risks, when it comes to social media marketing?

Scavo: What sets ManyVids apart from other companies is that our primary goal is to promote our MV Stars and any social media analytics or metrics come secondary to that. If we run social media contests we always make sure the steps are simple so everyone can participate. We like to give all of our MV Stars equal promotional opportunity, so I think having the pressure to meet certain numbers would interfere with that.

XBIZ: Tell us about your musical endeavors!

Scavo: You’ve done your research! DJing and producing is what initially brought me to Montreal, so I guess you can say my love for music is what ignited both my DJ career and professional career.

I recently played at a famous music festival here in Montreal called Piknic Electronik, where I played in front of a crowd of over 5,000 people! It’s really one of the best feelings in the world. I can genuinely say I have not 1 but 2 dream jobs ... which is something I’m forever grateful for!
