Epoch’s Henry Rosa Touts His Technical Side

Epoch’s Henry Rosa Touts His Technical Side

Epoch’s Henry Rosa is someone you want to do business with.

Not only is he knowledgeable and has many years of experience providing merchants with assistance, he also knows the backend.

Epoch’s business comes from a mixture of platforms. Of course, our industry is seeing webcam sites taking a big portion; however, subscription sites are still in the mix.

Through the years, Rosa has been an important cog of Epoch and numerous clients he serves by providing solid processing solutions for their unique needs.

XBIZ recently sat down with Rosa to learn more about the veteran account exec at Epoch.

XBIZ: What exactly do you do at Epoch, and how did you land there?

Rosa: I’m an account executive in the sales department. My job and responsibilities focus on all aspects of a merchant from initial onboard process to technical integrations. I know that you are wondering how does a salesperson do technical integrations.

Before I came into sales I used to work on the technical side assisting merchants with integrating Epoch’s system. With this knowledge and experience, I’m able to assist merchants from the technical side. This why I always say you get the best of both worlds when working with me.

I obtained the opportunity to work at Epoch from a referral from my brother who was already working here. I was hired right after completing high school, and 15 years later I’m still here. During my 15 years, I have transitioned from different departments in the company such as customer service, risk management, technical support and now sales.

XBIZ: Adult processing is a field with a lot of competition. What are some of the features that make Epoch stand out in such a competitive field?

Rosa: I completely agree; however, I believe Epoch stands out on various features.

The primary ones that I always mention are excellent throughput, premium payment methods, 20 years of experience and the main one in my book is our family-like atmosphere you get from everyone here at Epoch.

We pride ourselves in making sure that we resolve any situation in a timely fashion and with great customer service.

XBIZ: Where is most of Epoch’s business coming from these days?

Rosa: Epoch’s business comes from a mixture of platforms. Of course, our industry is seeing webcam sites taking a big portion; however, subscription sites are still in the mix.

From our end, subscription sites are doing extremely well. One of the sectors in the subscription model that we have seen increases are from individual model subscription sites.

The last platform is video-on-demand/pay-per-video sites; we have seen an increase in the creation of these sites.

XBIZ: What’s a typical day like?

Rosa: My typical day starts off like everyone else’s, with a great cup of Joe. I need that caffeine to get the day started right. I try to arrive at the office as early as 7 a.m. Once settled in, I start tackling emails, chats and any missed calls. Yes, we still use telephones here at Epoch.

My key strategy throughout the day is to keep track of time zones. Time is very important here at Epoch as we have merchants not only in the U.S. but also in Europe. Time plays a big factor on getting things accomplished, so I try focusing on E.U. merchants right from the beginning, since their day is pretty much ending.

Then I move on to East Coast merchants and, last but not least, our West Coast merchants. Throughout this process, I’m in and out of meetings with our executives and various departments to try and close out any pending projects.

XBIZ: What’s the best part of the job?

Rosa: The best part of the job for me is being able to assist merchants with their business. Having the opportunity to provide suggestions on billing strategies to help merchants increase their highest potential in revenue makes me feel like I’m part of their team.

XBIZ: Who inspires you in this industry?

Rosa: Various people have influenced my career in this industry; however, the most influential individuals have been Joel Hall, Epoch’s president; Esther Martinez, Epoch’s COO; and Harmik Gharapetian, Epoch’s vice president of sales and marketing.

Joel Hall for always having pride in his company and supporting his staff. Esther Martinez for always taking on the leadership role and making us come together. Harmik Gharapetian for teaching me the ropes in sales and being a great role model.

XBIZ: When not thinking about the biz, what do you like to do?

Rosa: I never stop thinking about the biz. Ha ha! When there is some free time, I always try to keep up with all the Los Angeles sports teams. I’m born and raised in L.A., so I support all the L.A. teams.

I am a big fan of barbecues and, of course, beer. For all those who know me well, it is all about Coronas!

Lastly, I enjoy the outdoors or anywhere where your cellphone signal goes MIA.

There is something about disconnecting for a moment to get yourself recharged.

The Search for Perfection in Your Payments Page

There has been a lot of talk about changes to cross sales and checkout pages. You have likely noticed that acquirers are now actively pushing back on allowing merchants to offer a negative option, upsell or any cross sales on payment pages.
